Pocketing: What It Means When She's Hiding You
You're dating. You just don't exist in her world yet. That's pocketing, and it's a problem.
TL;DR
Pocketing is when the person you're dating keeps you completely hidden from their social world, no friend introductions, no family mentions, no public presence together, usually because they're not serious about you or have something to hide.
What it means
Pocketing is when someone dates you in a sealed compartment. You get the texts, the dates, maybe even the intimacy, but you never get the rest of her life. No friends. No family. No social media existence as a unit. You exist in her world the way a secret exists: real to her, invisible to everyone else.
The term fits perfectly. She's slipped you in a pocket. You're still there, technically. She can feel you when she reaches in. But nobody else sees you, and she's not taking you out in public anytime soon.
This isn't the same as moving slowly or being a private person. Pocketing is a sustained, active choice to keep you out of the visible parts of her life, usually because she isn't sure she wants you in them permanently.
A girl who's serious about you wants to show you off. Hiding you isn't shyness. It's a policy.
Why people do it
There are a few versions, and they're all some flavor of "not ready to commit to this being real."
She's keeping options open. Introducing you to her friends makes it real. It invites opinions, questions, a social record. If she's not sure she wants to keep you around, keeping you hidden preserves the easy exit. No awkward explanations later.
You're the side situation. This is the uncomfortable one. If there's another guy, or a recent ex who's not fully gone, the last thing she's doing is mixing those worlds. You being hidden isn't a coincidence.
You're a placeholder. She likes having someone around right now, but she doesn't see long-term potential. You serve the function, but you don't make the cut for actual integration into her life.
She's genuinely not ready. This is the most charitable read, and it occasionally applies. Some people are intensely private, cautious about their social circles, slow to integrate anyone. The key distinction: are you hidden, or does she integrate people slowly across the board? Look at what she does with other new people in her life, not just what she says about it.
The version that isn't on the list anywhere: "She's super serious about you but forgot to introduce you to anyone."

Which dating app is right for you?
Take the quiz to find the apps where your odds are actually best.
The clearest sign is the gap between how much you know about her life and how much her life knows about you. She can describe her best friend's dating drama in detail. Her best friend doesn't know your name. That's the gap.
Here are the specific patterns:
Months in, zero introductions. Not even a casual "this is my friend" energy in passing. You've never shared the same physical space as a single person from her social world.
She's active on social, you're absent. She documents her life thoroughly. Coffee, concerts, sunsets, brunch. You've spent every weekend together and exist nowhere in the record. Her Instagram is a documentary of her life in which you do not appear.
Plans always seem to conflict when her people are involved. Every group hangout, every birthday dinner, every casual gathering somehow doesn't work out for you to attend. The conflict rate is statistically improbable.
Vague timelines forever. You'll meet her friends "soon." You'll come to that thing "next time." Soon and next time are the same date: never scheduled, always implied.
She steps away for calls. If she's regularly stepping out of the room to take calls when you're together, you're likely not supposed to be audible on the other end.

Where should you live to date?
Rank U.S. cities on your odds, your budget, and your lifestyle.
Keeps you hidden from friends, family, social media
You're a secret, not a priority
Breadcrumbing
Occasional texts and likes, no real plans
She wants your attention, not your company
Slow Fade
Gradually reduces contact over weeks
She's phasing you out politely
Situationship
All the intimacy, none of the labels
Mutual ambiguity, both parties involved
How to respond
You don't have to make this a dramatic confrontation. You also don't have to silently accept being somebody's invisible man. There's a direct, low-drama path through this.
How to handle it, in order
01
Name what you actually want
Not as an ultimatum, just as a statement. 'I'd like to meet your friends at some point.' Clean, confident, no begging. Say it once and watch what she does with it. A girl who wants you in her life figures out a way to put you there.
02
Give it a reasonable runway, then look at behavior
Two or three months in is reasonable to start noticing patterns. Six months with zero introductions and zero public presence together is a pattern. Don't argue with the pattern. It's the clearest data you're going to get.
03
Stop making it comfortable for her to hide you
If you keep showing up enthusiastically for a relationship that only exists in private, you're subsidizing the arrangement. Pull back the enthusiasm a notch. Not as a manipulation game, but because your energy should go where it's matched.
04
Decide what you actually want and act accordingly
You either want a real, visible relationship or you don't. If you do, and she's made it clear after a direct conversation that meeting her world isn't happening anytime soon, you have your answer. The exit is right there. Use it.
The thing most guys do wrong here is wait. They wait for her to naturally bring them into her world, and they interpret every crumb of progress as a sign that it's coming. It's not coming. It would have happened already if it were going to happen organically. You have to name what you want and let her respond. That response is the information.
The honest part
Being pocketed is a slow way of being told you're not quite the choice, without anyone having to say it out loud. The relationship feels real because parts of it are. But a real relationship, one that's actually going somewhere, leaks into visible life. She talks about you. She shows you off a little. She wants her people to know you exist because she's proud of the choice she made. If none of that is happening, the pocket is not a quirk in an otherwise solid thing. The pocket is the whole story. You deserve to be someone's actual choice, not their hidden one.
